Vikings Preview, News and Notes

This is a BIG GAME heading into the bye week for the Bears. They need to defend home turf and build momentum going into the bye week.

The difference in the game will be which running back can move the football and eat up clock. Matt Forte has been putting up average yards in the running game the past couple weeks, but his versatility coming out of the backfield will be key in keeping the Vikings defense honest.

The Bears need to shut down Adrian Peterson and avoid a repeat performance of last year when he ran for 243 yards.

Other News:

***Wide receiver Brandon Lloyd (knee) and safety Daniel Manning (pulled hamstring) are out for tomorrow’s game. Starting cornerbacks Nathan Vasher (wrist) and Charles Tillman (shoulder) are questionable. If both starting cornerbacks are out, the secondary will be vulnerable.

***Linebacker Brian Urlacher has been fined $20,000 by the NFL for abusive conduct toward a game official.

Ha ha alright here's my rebuttal.
3 Reasons why the Vikings will win:

1. Peterson is actually on pace to rush for more yards than he did last year. While I agree that it doesn't seem like he's producing the same way he did last year, it was in fact against Chicago that Peterson had his breakout game like you mentioned. Minnesota will definitely study tape from last year to see if they can repeat the success they had against the Bears in '07.

2. The passing game is getting better. Yeah that sounds wierd and repetitive, but Frerotte passed for 296 against Detroit and should've had more. Plus look at Chicago's secondary. Banged up players at key positions. Minnesota may actually rely on the pass on Sunday.
We'll see how the crowd reacts to Bernard Berrian as well.

3. Minnesota's defense keeps them in games and puts their team in positions to win games. Plain and simple they are one of the best defenses in the NFL. They get worn down though when the offense fails to execute after the defense seizes momentum. It's a huge let down when you make a big defensive play and then go 3-and-out and put the defense in a bad spot position-wise.
Vikings' D will look to bottle up Forte and pressure Orton with the likes of Allen and the Williams "Brothers".

I agree with your score, but I think the Vikings keep building on their momentum and win this one as they have the bigger X-factor in Ryan Longwell. 14 career game-winning field goals and he's been outstanding so far this year.

Still this is a game both teams need, so we'll see who makes less mistakes and executes better down the stretch.
